One end of soap bonds with the water and the other bonds with the lipid layer of the virus. Through the action of lathering soap and washing our hands (or body) the soap actually dissolves the lipid/ fat layer of the virus. The washing action causes the virus to loses its layer of fat and destroys the virus! Moral of the story? Wash your hands with bar soap!
